This is probably a little late for Halloween costumes, but I’ve been working on a craft project for a kid’s Hogwarts tie and Harry Potter-style wand. Let’s face it, real ties are uncomfortable. A lot of adults don’t like wearing them, let alone kids. So in this post, I’m going to show you how to make a quick, easy, cute Gryffindor tie (or whichever house you choose) out of felt.
You’ll need two pieces of felt, one in each house color. So, for this one, I’m using red and gold. Aside from that, you’ll also need a pen, craft glue, and a pair of scissors. You’ll probably notice my felt is a bit cut up already, because it was left over from a project my mom did with her elementary school class.
Anyway, the first thing you want to do is draw the shape of your tie on one piece of felt and cut it out. After that, trace it onto the other and use a straight edge to draw stripes.
Cut these stripes out and lay them on the base layer. Then, use craft glue to glue them down.
Voila! Gryffindor tie complete!
To attach it to the shirt, use either a safety pin or a couple of loose, easily-removed stitches.
