Just Saw Fantastic Beasts

… And I loved it! I’ll have a full review up soon, but for now I’m just going to say this: it wasn’t quite Harry Potter, but it felt like a natural extension of the same world, and the story was well-told.

  1. I love it too. I love the fact that it left me with so many questions.

The movie is set in New York in 1926:
    Gellert Grindelwald was 43
    Albus Dumbledore was 45
Tom Riddle was born this year
27 years after the tragic death of Dumbledore’s ill-fated sister Ariana.
19 years before the legendary duel between Grindelwald & Dumbledore.

The movie introduces Obscurus: powerful and destructive dark force created when magic is suppressed.

I have a few theories about what will be in the next films.

    1. Ariana was an Obscurus. Her magical ability was suppressed after the attack from the Muggles. This explained how their mother Kendra was accidentally killed from “an explosion” in 1899.

    2. In the same year, Arianna was accidentally killed in the three-way duel between her older brothers and Gellert Grindelwald. This could mean Gellert Grindelwald was after Ariana’s Obscurus force and tried to take advantage of this

    3. We will see the the legendary Grindelwald & Dumbledore duel.

    4. Credence could still be alive. Ezra Miller’s performance was amazing so it would be wasteful just to cast him for only one movie. =)

    5. Bigotry (in my opinion) Rappaport’s Law forbids witches and wizards to form any relationship with No-Majs. Then what happens to No-Maj-born children with magical ability? They will never get to go to Ilvermorny? Or they will be removed from No-Maj’s world and their family and friends get obliviated?

    6. A prophecy was mentioned in the movie. It was about a child with extraordinary power. Graves/Grindelwald was after this child. Could this child be Tom Riddle. Tom Riddle was born in 1926. He was the one that killed Grindelwald in 1998 in Nurmengard while searching for the Elder Wand.

    7. The next movie is probably about how Newt marrying Tina, Queenie marrying Jacob. Queenie is by far my favourite character.

What do you think about these thoughts?

    • Hi, and thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think Arianna was probably an obscurus, too. Glad to know I’m not the only one! It makes sense to me that she was where Grindelwald got the idea from.

It would certainly be interesting to see more from Credence. My feeling is, we didn’t see a body, so he could easily turn out to have survived.

As for your point #5, I’ve actually written about that here: https://hogwartspensieve.wordpress.com/2016/11/04/no-maj-born/ … Yes, there are definitely some disturbing implications for muggle-borns under Rappaport’s Law.
